One of my favourite oxymorons is “Change is the only constant.”
What a beautiful thing, indeed! As cliché as it sounds, the truth is that the only thing which remains the same in life is change. You can never escape it. As much as we would love to have a certain uniformity in our lives, we have to embrace the fact that things cannot be the same forever.
The other day I was having a conversation with my brother. I expressed my desire to become the person I was a few years ago. What my brother replied to it is one of the most beautiful words of wisdom I’ve ever heard. He said,
“You can never go back to being what you were in the past. All the changes that you underwent over the years, be it the good or the bad, is what makes you the person you are today. Always embrace every minute change in you. That’s how you evolve.”
Honestly, there are a lot of days when I feel like going back to being the old me. But when I look back, I cannot help but marvel at all that I’ve become today. The change is huge, and something I’m totally proud of. Of course, there are a lot of things I miss about the old version of me. But hey! There’s also a lot that I’ve gained over the years.
Likewise, people come and people go from our lives. We can never expect the same people to remain by our side for all our lives. I believe every person comes in our life for a reason. Some remain for a long time and some don’t. But with each of them, we evolve and adapt in a way or the other.
Life is like a suspense novel. Every chapter holds importance. You cannot skip on any of it, no matter how boring or how intense they are. That’s how we go forward and explore what happens next.
Every single change that happens within and around us, inches us closer to being a stronger and bolder person. Adapting to change is all about passing through obstacles, a lot of times struggling to get out of them, yet moving forward.
Human beings themselves evolved from apes. Isn’t it truly a marvel to see how we have adapted to nature from the beginning of time? Change is beautiful. It sounds quite alien to be coming from me, since not long ago, I ran away from change. But now? Things are different. Each change that happens around me, I acknowledge it and move ahead.
I’m reminded of this gem of a song from the Bollywood movie, Golmaal (the old one):
“Aane wala pal, Jaane wala hai,
Ho sake toh ismein, Zindagi bita do,
Pal jo yeh Jaane wala hai..”
Translation in English for non-Hindi readers:
“The moment which is to arrive will pass by,
If possible, live your life in it,
The moment shall pass soon..”
Until next time, stay blessed! 🙂
