What is Love?

One of our neighbours adopted a cow a couple of years ago. Initially, it was quite hilarious to listen to the cow mooing all day long. Because let’s be honest, in cities we generally see people having dogs and cats as pets, and not cows.
But we soon got used to it. A couple of months later, the cow gave birth to an adorable calf. The neighbours had a grand naming ceremony of the calf as well! Little did I know that the calf is going to be so important to me in future.
One day we decided to go and see the calf up and close. And that was it. I never believed in love at first sight, but that day I was proven wrong.
I am not really an animal lover as such, but the calf changed everything. I keep visiting her every 2 weeks or so with a bunch of bananas. The way she waits to see me and shows her love makes my heart burst with joy. It is pure, unadulterated love which she radiates.
Honestly, I have not felt such a strong pull of emotions like this, towards anything or anybody ever before. The good vibes that radiate from her are truly beautiful. And now I know what unconditional and pure love is.

Love in our dictionaries somehow always makes us think about romantic love. Even though it is a big part of it, love is so much more than that, isn’t it?
Here’s a listicle of sorts as to what love looks like:

  1. When your mother waits up for you until late, just to feed you wholesome and fresh food, after a tiring day at work.
  2. When your father silently shows his appreciation towards you.
  3. When your siblings stand with you, no matter what.
  4. When animals show their excitement at seeing you.
  5. When a kid shares their chocolate or biscuits with you.
  6. When your loved ones are right there by your side when you’re not having a great day.
  7. When people are ready to let their guard down and trust in you.
  8. When people do little things, just to bring a smile to your face.
  9. When people value your time and respect your opinions.
  10. When people feel overjoyed with your achievements.
  11. When your friends do not judge you and instead accept you with all your quirks and flaws.

Most importantly, love is when you learn to respect yourself and learn what is good for you and what isn’t. It is when you learn to forgive yourself for your mistakes and show a bit of appreciation for all that you are.

What does love mean to you? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time, stay blessed!

  1. Love, for me, is there when we trust people or / and ourselves unconditionally. Perfectly written by you, i can imagine the gleam in the baby calf’s eyes when you would go to visit and provide it food. That instantly melts our hearts.
