The Bespectacled Girl and Her Clumsy Fingers (TBG #4)

The Bespectacled Girl has many talents.

Typing is clearly not one of them.

She belongs to a rare species whose brain and fingers seldom coordinate. Her messages start off perfectly fine in her head. But somewhere between her thoughts and the keyboard, things go wrong.

Terribly wrong.

And this issue becomes particularly severe when she gets excited (which happens to be quite often).

Especially in group chats.

While any normal person would type, “Guys! You will never believe what just happened!!” our girl, on the other hand, sends a message that, at a bare minimum, contains at least three spelling mistakes, one word that never exists in any dictionary in the entire universe, and a sentence that means something entirely different from what she intends. Unfortunately, not always in a good way.

The number of errors is directly proportional to her excitement levels.

This has been observed repeatedly and is backed by years of evidence collected by her friends.

Her friends have stopped asking for clarifications. They either simply decode her messages (if they feel brave enough) or they just ignore them. They are seriously considering listing this as one of their top skills on their respective resumes.

The Bespectacled Girl, instead of trying to slow down and type correctly, seems genuinely impressed by her own ability to type complete nonsense at record-breaking speeds.

But this problem is not always as simple as it seems.

One particularly unfortunate day, she managed to accidentally video call her boss. Thanks to her fingers that seem to have their own mind.

One moment she is holding her phone, the next moment her boss is staring back at her from the screen. Panic ensued. She hastily cut the call. And then spent the next several minutes wondering if it was too late to change her name, address, job, and her entire existence.

When questioned about this incident, she delivered a highly professional explanation: “By mistake.”

Despite the ridiculousness of her “condition”, she does treat her professional emails with extreme caution. Every email that she types out gets checked once. Then twice. And the third time for good measure.

And yet, despite all these precautions, she once ended a professional email with “Retards” instead of “Regards.”

She would rather not know what happened when this discovery was made by the recipient.

Over the years, her friends have accumulated an impressive list of all her typing disasters, ranging from screenshots, messages, and whatnot. Needless to say, the collection continues to grow. They probably need to create a database of it, categorised and colour-coded.

And despite everything, every day, she continues to send texts and emails quite courageously. And every single time, she hopes to place her trust in autocorrect.

The keyboard knows better.
